Which is Better – More Repetitions or Harder Weights?
Many people will say a combination of both. While this may be true, there is more to it than that. The endurance training is important, because it makes your heart stronger. But it is not that important.
Have you seen a 100m sprinter? His body is muscular and he has little body fat. This is because he needs explosive power, and only little endurance.
And have you seen a marathon runner? They all have little muscle mass, and strangely enough – their body fat levels are higher than the ones of a sprinter. Marathon runners are still relatively lean, but not as lean as sprinters. The former rely more on endurance, while running speed is not that significant.
This alone is enough to prove, that short sets – 5-6 repetitions are better for muscle building, than what most bodybuilders recommend. Which is 10-12 reps.
If you are a bodybuilder too, then follow their advice. Only if you are on steroids, you will benefit more from higher repetition count. The reason is, that you are pumping more blood to your muscles, and with that the steroid gets absorbed by the muscle cells more efficiently.
Most people will readily tell you to do 10-12 reps to gain muscle. This can help you sometimes, but it can’t be your regular workout. 4-6 reps per set, and you will be gaining both muscle and strength.
